- Garbage must be securely bagged and placed inside a suitable container. Suitable containers do not allow waste to be scattered by rodents, dogs, or birds. Containers must be kept neat and clean.
- Containers must be accessible to collection staff and must not obstruct traffic or snow-clearing operations.
- Recycling must be prepared according to the eligible recycling guidelines.
- Waste that does not meet collection requirements may be left behind.
Weekly Garbage Bag Limits
| Property Type | Included Weekly Limit | Additional Bags |
|---|---|---|
| Residential | 2 bags per week | $3.00 per additional bag |
| Commercial | 6 bags per week | $3.00 per additional bag |
| Institutional | 10 bags per week | $3.00 per additional bag |
Additional Garbage Bags
Garbage bag limits are tracked on a monthly basis using the applicable weekly allowance.
For example, a residential property with a limit of two bags per week has a monthly allowance of eight bags based on a four-week period.
The total number of bags collected during the month will be recorded and reviewed to ensure the property’s weekly average does not exceed its allowable limit. Properties that exceed their monthly allowance will be billed $3.00 for each additional bag.
This allows for reasonable variation from week to week, provided the total monthly allowance is not exceeded.
